As part of the election campaign for the US presidency, former president and current presidential candidate Donald J. Trump met with representatives of the US Bitcoin mining industry yesterday and promised them his support.

Trump wants the US to remain a pioneer in the mining industry and for all new Bitcoin to be mined there - also to counteract central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

Meeting with the Bitcoin mining industry

At the meeting, Trump held talks with Jason Lee and Brian Morgenstern from Riot Platforms, Salman Khan from Marathon Digital, S Matthew Schultz from CleanSpark and Amanda Fabiano from Fabiano Consulting, who was formerly responsible for mining at Galaxy and Fidelity. All representatives spoke positively about the meeting on social media and were pleased with the interest and promised support of the potential next US president.

In addition to the leading representatives of the US Bitcoin mining industry, Trump also met with the CEO of Bitcoin Magazine, David Bailey, who is supporting Trump in his election campaign.

Bitcoin as an election issue

After the meeting, Donald Trump communicated his ideas about the future of Bitcoin in the US on his own social media platform Truth Social with a very Trump-like statement. He wants all remaining Bitcoin to be "manufactured" in the US, thereby preserving "energy dominance".

It is also interesting to note that Trump sees Bitcoin mining as a line of defense against central bank digital currencies. CBDCs are being planned or are already being implemented in many places, but are increasingly encountering resistance from freedom advocates due to centralized control.

In the statement, Trump also reiterates the differences between his stance on Bitcoin, cryptocurrencies and Bitcoin mining and that of his rival and current US President Joe Biden. The differences regarding the handling of Bitcoin and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) have crystallized in recent months - Blocktrainer.de reported. Trump wants to secure the future of cryptocurrency in America, while also promoting the right to self-custody for the "50 million crypto holders in the United States". Trump has also decided to accept campaign donations in the form of Bitcoin (including via Lightning) and cryptocurrencies.

At a fundraising event in San Francisco last week, the 77-year-old is also said to have introduced himself as crypto president and reiterated his support for the sector - Reuters reported. The positive attitude towards Bitcoin and Co. since the beginning of May could further extend Trump's lead in the race for the US presidency.

However, it remains to be seen whether Trump will be able to secure his return to the White House this November with the backing and votes of the Bitcoin and crypto community and, above all, whether he will follow up such promises with action.

However, one thing should have become clear in recent months: Bitcoin has become an important aspect of the US election campaign like never before.
